As Williamsburg starts bringing in more menswear stores, as slow as ever, there are some highlights. Case and point H.W. Carter & Sons – 127 North 6th in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

A quick stop between Dinner at the Wythe Hotel and then to see Goro Miyazaki’s film “From up on poppy hill” (Kokurikozaka Kara) at Williamsburg cinemas I happend upon these great shades from Mosley Tribes. Overall a great weekend – plus I took my new shades out for a spin around SOHO today!

First introduced last spring, Italian brand SUPER follows up on its OPTICAL line with the OPTICAL WANDERISM collection. The range features several of the brand’s most revered silhouettes, slightly adjusting them for everyday eyeglass use. Each of the square and circular frames are offered in two sizes, giving wearers the option of having an oversized or more fitted look. In addition to a lighter body than their sunglass counterparts, the pieces in the collection are presented in a combination of crystalline and colored acetate in two distinct colorways:  REPERTOIRE BLACK and REPERTOIRE LIGHT HAVANA. A Wild Sheep Chase – Haruki Murakami

It has been a while since a book was suggested to me, let alone a recommendation that came after explaining the way my life works… but there it was. 

As the book was described to me, it was a “very easy read”. The polt was not half bad, the flow steady and without waste; but I was most interested in Murakami’s description of the mundane. However, I was not interested in the way he describes the mundane, more of the choice of situations and objects he describes. The ending is obscure and feels rushed, but otherwise a good easy read.

Reading notes (no spoilers):

First, If you are like me and find yourself creating alternate universes from the book as you read, you may find yourself reading a page twice and thinking in the same rhythm of the book as you take a break for a glass of water.

Secondly, if you read a book on the train in NYC be prepared for any manner of woman to ask you what you are reading and stare at you intensely because they dont think you can see them in your peripherals.

Wang Yue, a senior at Dalian Industry University, uses her paintbrush to turn ugly tree holes into lovely views in Shijiazhuang, capital city of Hebei Province.

Wang Yue calls the tree-hole paintings “meitu” which means “beautiful journey.” The paintings on the trees have brightened the city during the dull, grey winter.
