Akishika “Bambi cup” Sake

Akishika “Bambi cup” Sake

I discovered the cutest sake this weekend, by accidentally walking by “NYC’s First Sake Shop”, Sakaya. The best part about this sake is that you can collect a nice set of glasses after you drink it and the glass also comes with a reusable plastic lid!

Akishika Autumn Deer “Bambi” Saké is a Junmai Sake from Osaka that is light and dry with a creamy texture.

DIY Japanese Shoji Wall for Small Spaces

My Temporary Shoji Wall

So here is the story – I had an extra room that was too small for a couch and table, but too big to be a closet or office. So I decided to put an Ikea futon in it and make it a secondary bed room.

However, the room only had 3 walls, therefore lacking some privacy. I decided to build a Japanese Shoji wall. The wall is connected to a shelf at the top, thus creating a wall that offers privacy but created no structural modifications to the room itself other the attachment of the shelf to the wall.

The solution allows light to still flow through the apartment and gives a little depth and warmth to the space. If the wall gets damaged or dirty you just replace the Shoji Paper like normal Shoji.

Budget was around $180 and took about 20 working hours to complete (creation and install).

My dad was kind enough to help me pull it off and here are the results!
(sorry for my iPhone4 Photo Quality). Personal Note :: I love this style wall!

A Wild Sheep Chase – Haruki Murakami

It has been a while since a book was suggested to me, let alone a recommendation that came after explaining the way my life works… but there it was.

As the book was described to me, it was a “very easy read”. The polt was not half bad, the flow steady and without waste; but I was most interested in Murakami’s description of the mundane. However, I was not interested in the way he describes the mundane, more of the choice of situations and objects he describes. The ending is obscure and feels rushed, but otherwise a good easy read.

Reading notes (no spoilers):

First, If you are like me and find yourself creating alternate universes from the book as you read, you may find yourself reading a page twice and thinking in the same rhythm of the book as you take a break for a glass of water.

Secondly, if you read a book on the train in NYC be prepared for any manner of woman to ask you what you are reading and stare at you intensely because they dont think you can see them in your peripherals.
