The Evening Lights Set in space

??⛩

I have noticed that I have an affinity with light. I am drawn to the way it brightens a room or adds shadows which create depth within a space.

Today, I fell in love with the way this afternoon’s sunset drew an outline of my bookcase on the wall. The beige and gray lighting reminded me of Caravaggio’s dark and dramatic work. It is hard to believe that I captured such a Chiaroscuro-esque image with just my iPhone.

This room just has light

There’s a certain kind of quiet that only shows up when light does the talking. The front room of my apartment has always been like that—patient, observant, never demanding attention, yet impossible to ignore once you notice it.

The light comes in gently, filtered through old curtains and city air, landing on plants, books, and unfinished thoughts. It doesn’t rush. It lingers. It makes the ordinary feel intentional.

DIY Japanese Shoji Wall for Small Spaces

My Temporary Shoji Wall

So here is the story – I had an extra room that was too small for a couch and table, but too big to be a closet or office. So I decided to put an Ikea futon in it and make it a secondary bed room.

However, the room only had 3 walls, therefore lacking some privacy. I decided to build a Japanese Shoji wall. The wall is connected to a shelf at the top, thus creating a wall that offers privacy but created no structural modifications to the room itself other the attachment of the shelf to the wall.

The solution allows light to still flow through the apartment and gives a little depth and warmth to the space. If the wall gets damaged or dirty you just replace the Shoji Paper like normal Shoji.

Budget was around $180 and took about 20 working hours to complete (creation and install).

My dad was kind enough to help me pull it off and here are the results!
(sorry for my iPhone4 Photo Quality). Personal Note :: I love this style wall!
