Lunch at BG & Start of a Spa Day

There are days that feel like they’re made of small rituals—white tablecloths, quiet silverware, the slow pause before the first bite. Lunch at BG was that kind of beginning.

The table filled up quickly in the gentle way it always does: water glasses catching the light, a basket of bread that makes you reach without thinking, and plates that arrive looking like they belong to a calmer version of the city. The gnocchi came in a pale, creamy sauce with truffle scattered over the top, earthy and soft, the kind of flavor that lingers while the room keeps moving around you. Across the table, a salad brought in something darker and crisp, a counterpoint that made everything feel balanced.

After lunch, the day shifted—still the same streets, still the same noise outside, but the plan was different. A spa day always feels like stepping into another world that sits right beside the one you’re used to. You trade hurry for warmth, tension for quiet, and you start paying attention to the simple things again: breathing, stillness, the feeling of time stretching out instead of snapping forward.

It wasn’t a dramatic day. It didn’t need to be. It was just Lunch at BG & Start of a Spa Day—one gentle moment leaning into the next.

The Spa is Mine

The Spa is Mine.

It’s a small claim, but it feels true in that quiet way—when the water is glassy, the sky is a clean, wide blue, and the whole yard looks like it’s holding its breath. The pool sits there like a bright square of calm, bordered by sun-warmed concrete and a strip of green that looks too orderly to be accidental.

From this chair, with my legs stretched out and a book open in my lap, the day becomes simple. There’s no rush to get in, no need to prove anything. Just the soft sound of water shifting against tile, and the steady light that makes everything look a little newer than it is.

I like how places can feel lived alongside you. Not loud, not demanding—just present. A backyard can be a kind of home for your thoughts, the way an old house can hold seasons in its walls. Out here, summer doesn’t announce itself; it settles in.

Maybe that’s all “mine” means today: a brief pocket of stillness, claimed without conflict. A moment where nothing is being remodeled, improved, optimized, or explained. Just a body in the sun, a page turning, and water waiting patiently nearby.

Infused Spa Water?

It is a strange thing when a spur of the moment idea turns into something more. I never intended to make such a production out of making infused water at work, but I no doubt went a bit too far and pushed the idea over the edge into a full-blown activity.

I was in the midst of closing out  a credit card and started browsing the rewards portal to spend the last of my points. The rewards portal was never too exciting (one of the reasons I paid off the card), often filled with gimmicky suburban delights like Blade BluRay discs and shake weights. I decided to default to kitchen gadgets when I came across a Yorkshire Glassware Dispenser and Mason Jar Mugs. It was done all too quickly; the glassware was purchased and shipped to my desk at Club Monaco Corporate Offices.

I thought to myself,  “I’m going to cut coffee and drink water, that way I will save money and be healthy.”

Day One the dispenser was filled with cucumbers and water. Ten minutes into positioning it next to my desk it was instantly dubbed “Spa Water” by my coworkers, Hannah and Robin. From there a contribution list was started, a cute towel was set down to catch condensation, and the rest is history.

It Takes a Team

If I am the Spirit, Hannah (@hlbiddle) and Robin (@turningpaiges) are the Goddesses of Spa Water. These two are a delight on a normal day, but they have definitely made this an enjoyable activity.

After offering the water to the rest of the eCommerce team at Club Monaco, it was proclaimed a good “moral booster,”  but really it just makes me feel like a summer’s breeze ~ relaxed.

Both Hannah and Robin have been very helpful at keeping the contribution list on track, cutting/displaying the fruits & veggies, and keeping the flavors fresh.
