First carved in 1890 by Vasily Zvyozdochkin, the Matryoshka is a traditional Russian folk doll comprised of a series of nesting figurines, each one smaller and different from the last. With a pattern of embracing heritage and historical quirks as inspirations for their collections, it’s no surprise that Maison Martin Margiela decided to give the Matryoshka its own twist for the Fall/Winter 2011 season. Decidedly more utilitarian and inherently French in design, the Margiela set consists of highly-stylized, white lacquered wood stacking figures. A surefire addition to any contemporary home, the high-design dolls are available now for $170 USD over at ALOHARAG.
