I wanted a light meal for lunch today

Late July and the light feels unhurried. The kitchen is still, just the soft hiss from the pot and a slow breath of summer air through the screen. I wanted a light meal for lunch—something easy to carry the afternoon forward—and it came together without thinking: warm rice, a spoon of stewed vegetables, a few sharp coins of pickles.

The rice lifts steam like a small weather system. The stew settles into its own calm, tender and a little sweet. The pickles are bright, a quick green spark that wakes the tongue. Bite by bite, the plate becomes a rhythm—tang, comfort, warmth—simple notes that add up to enough.

Outside, the day lingers. 18:35 and the sun is still deciding what to do with the evening. I eat standing for a moment, then sit, and the room gets quieter. Funny how a small lunch can make space in a day, how a little bowl of rice steadies the hands.

Nothing fancy. Just a light meal that tastes like exactly now.

Burger Brunch Booyah!

| Wow, what can I say, this burger was worth all the hype at David’s Cafe! The Burger Queen Deluxe is a double patty with American cheese, pickles, lettuce, tomato and a special sauce.

Sunday second brunch at The Richardson

| #boyfriendswhobrunch #brooklyn #brunch #richardson | ???

| Finally, I had the time and was in the right location to try the Richardson (@therichardsonnyc). I have to say the cocktails were pretty great and the sandwiches were better then I expected for bar food. The Richardson is your classic cocktail bar with a slight pub feel. They serve many drinks and have a larger selection of whiskey & bourbon; I had a vesper.

The layout of the bar is great to sit and people watch and the patio a a decent size. You can normally find a seat either inside or outside if you get there a bit early, but even at a peek time there is not much of a wait.

Loving Lucky Luna

| I am having serious doubts about sharing this restaurant and subsequent post. Lucky Luna is one of those neighborhood gems that you may regret telling people about if word spreads about its likable qualities and as a result it becomes too popular to get a seat.

The Meal

I had a delicious meal with Angel here at Cherry Point. It was a recommendation from my good friend Devon, who had yet to lead me astray. The menu was pretty rustic but a good assortment for breakfast / brunch. There were several cured fish dishes as well as a nice selection of cocktails. We started with a Sticky Toffee Bun and homemade clotted cream, followed by an orange juice and good coffee, finished with the Brisket and Eggs made to perfection.

Almost Winter Healthy with Sweetgreen

| I am always able to find something I like at Sweetgreen. This night, it was a Sweetgreen date with my boyfriend Angel.
I ended up saving half the salad for the next day and using the bread for some homemade soup.

Brown Butter Cod from Blue Apron

| Another Blue Apron meal and I am starting to see some repetition.I am almost positive there is some research behind what ingredients are available, costing factors into bulk purchasing from vendors, and generally what customers prefer but a vast majority of the fish dishes include Cod. I do not want that to come off as a criticism but more of an observation. That being said, this was a very tasty dish and I now have have knowledge to make a brown butter sauce.

Summer Cold Soba & Tempura

| ??❄️
| Call it a weakness, call it a habit, call it delicious ~ There are few things that beat the summer heat but one of my favorites is cold soba.Sobaya in East Village has to be my favorite for any temperature of Soba. Soba-ya (meaning soba restaurant) uses natural ingredients and “buckwheat flour from Azumino, Nagano which is best known for sobako in Japan and also, buying first grade sobako milled by Kurashina Mill”. They have an amazing lunch special that includes Soba or Udon of your choosing, plus a side salad/soup, and tempura! Everytime I eat here I am never disappointed.

My First Blue Apron with Crispy Cod and Summer Squash

| #916 #food #dinner @blueapron
| ???
|I have been meaning to try Blue Apron, or something similar, and finally made the commitment. After reviewing many services, Blue Apron appeared to have the best track record and most choices. The first meal I made was a Crispy Cod ribboned Summer Squash dish. I had never cooked, let alone pan fried fish before, but i’m please that the result not only looked pleasing but was tasty! Initial assessment of Blue Apron is pretty good. However, I wish there was a better way or an alternate way to dispose of the ice packs.
